Hunter X Hunter is the perfect adventure fantasy show. It starts off as a generic shonen anime with a hopeful, kind hearted and heroic main character but it gradually descends into psychological horror, existential dread, human cruelty, crime and trauma.

The pacing is perfect and the character depth is phenomenal. Even side characters and villains are given motivations and backstories (shoutout my boy Ikalgo).

Chimera Ant and Yorknew City arcs are masterclasses in storytelling, fight sequences and slow, deliberate tension building. Yorknew City is my favourite arc in the show, but my favourite episode is Zero X and X Rose, which comes out of the Chimera Ant arc. Zero X and X Rose is my favourite episode of any show, ever.

This show is a complex masterpiece that flips traditional shonen tropes on their head. It has 148 episodes (with a couple skippable recap episodes) which could be considered long but not a single second is wasted in my opinion. Must watch.

Before I start, I just want to mention this rating is only for seasons 1 to 6 because seasons 7 and 8 (especially 8) had a steep drop in writing quality and a rushed ending (due to a lack of source material, thanks GRRM).

This show is amazing on so many levels. Its following the story of so many different characters and somehow makes them all feel important. All the different elements like the politics within King's Landing, the wars for the iron throne, the supernatural threat of the white walkers, Bran's story mixing the concepts of altering the past and getting glimpses of the future, history of the Targaryens, Arya's arc with the faceless men etc., are all balanced so well and are interconnected to an extent you wouldn't expect. There are so many "you just have to watch it to understand it" twists and scenes in this show that make it so special.

Some standout episodes are Hold The Door, The Laws of Gods and Men, Blackwater, Mother's Mercy, The Rains of Castamere, and Battle of Bastards (there's more but I can't name them all).

Now I do have complaints too. One, There's way too much pornography. Straight up. There's so much of it that it sways away a lot of people from watching this show and I completely understand their reasoning. Second, A lot of the deaths in the show feel underwhelming. Great for shock factor but they just make you feel like you followed a character's journey for so long for nothing to happen. These are pretty much the only cons I could of think of.

Overall, this show is truly the gold standard of dialogue writing, cinematography, character complexity, and world building in the world of TV shows. If you can look past the excessive and unnecessary pornography in this show, it is a MUST watch.

This anime is SO GOOD. Seriously, the plot is unique, the world building is amazing and the characters are so insanely well written. No character is truly hate-able. For example Hiling's character is so interesting, where she is portrayed as a cruel stepmother at first and then is revealed to be a genuinely caring person. There are other genre-defying characters too like Daida and Miranjo. Bojji is obviously the GOAT and his friendship with Kage and teacher-student relation with Despa are handled so well.

This show is a must watch masterpiece.
